Hi Gail I like this--it can get to be a bad habit of living in the past before I even realize what I'm doing to myself, over & over again! I liked what you said in the workbook also about "take away everything that does not reflect who you are and w…

This is such great advice. While it's true you can't be expected to like everyone or everything, what you can expect of yourself is that you don't allow your dislikes to rule your life. There are so many better things to do with your energy.

LET’S HEAR IT FOR HOPE!

I don’t have to tell you, hope is a rare commodity in the world today. Its opposite, despair, seems to have gained the upper hand.

Yet everything good starts with hope. This country was founded on hope; it has endured because of hope; our greatest leaders in every sector are those who give us hope.

With hope everything is possible. Hope breeds optimism and positive energy; positive energy breeds the kind of resolve that causes heroic effort. Heroic effort creates results - even miracles.

'TIS THE SEASON TO GO CRAZY! OR NOT...

The Reader's Digest invited me to write a blog about how to make this holiday season less stressful. Check out www.readersdigest.com there are lots of good tips from various experts on the site. The piece, which I’ve included below, was fun to write. I just asked myself what were all the dumb things I do over the holidays that drive me - and everyone around me - crazy... and decided to toss them out this year! You can do the same. Read on...

Quotes

My good friend Nadia Allaudin of Merrill Lynch sent along these fabulous, motivational quotes. I think you'll like them:

"I dream of men who take the next step instead of worrying about the next thousand steps."

- Theodore Roosevelt

"Get bored with your past, it's over!"

- Caroline Myss

"Don't listen to those who say, 'You're taking too big a chance.' Michelangelo would have painted the Sistine floor, and it would surely be rubbed out by today. Most important, don't listen when the little… Continue

The Red Hat Rovers!

In case you're sensing a theme in the photo, this is my Red Hat group -- the Red Hat Rovers. And two weeks ago we roved to Merrimack Hall here in town and attended a program by Gail Blanke called Throw Out Fifty Things.

Based on her book Throw Out Fifty Things: Clear the Clutter, Find Your Life, the program sought to empower attendees by encouraging us to literally throw out fifty things in our homes and unclutter our lives both physically and emotionally.

Gail is a motivational speaker, colum… Continue

Speaker Gail Blanke says 'throw out 50 things"

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Throw out 50 things.

Motivational speaker and life coach Gail Blanke threw out the challenge to a sold-out crowd at Merrimack Hall on Thursday night.

It sounds so simple until you go home and try it.

But by using humor and inspirational stories of those who have succeeded, Blanke was convincing in her argument that women should simplify their lives of "mental and emotional clutter."

The goal, she… Continue

Hi Gail! I am sorry I was out of touch for so long. But you will be happy to know that I was working on the program. I am almost finished and have learned a lot about myself. I will be writing about my discoveries and realizations in the coming weeks. Through this process I finally found the strength to make an important decision. It was not easy but it was right. More to come....

What did I throw out? The cat, of course!
Naw, only kidding. That's Temujin, my fierce warrior pal. If he had his way, I'd be throwing out a lot more.
I started in the bedroom today and finding lots. The bedroom has been a place to hid my junk from visitor's eyes. Besides clothing, I am getting rid of an old aquarium that does really make me feel bad. I wasn't so good about keeping those fish alive.

I have a question, When will the workbook be available?
i think your website needs a FAQ's section because I'm pretty tech savy and it confuzzles me.
I couldn't finish the my name is -------and I'm the one who--------- statement on my own so i posted it on facebook and waited for my friends to finish it. Some of my former H.S. students gave interesting answers

Thank you Gail for inspiration! I started chapter 1 and I love how it feels that you are speaking directly to the reader (me!). Today I begin in my jewelry box. I was looking for something on Sunday, it took me 20 minutes. The 40 years of accumulation of childhood, gifts, trendy purchases was burdensome. While it only counts as "one" thing it will make me feel so good when this task is completed!

Gail,

I'm stuck on my "My name is.....and I'm the one who..... " statement. Everything I think of seems to contrived, or not specific enough. Do you have any extra advice? I look forward to seeing you tomorrow at Hachette's big Throw Out 50 Things day!
